Yesterday, looking up …
Yesterday, looking up, I saw:
- A periwinkle sky rimmed in robin’s egg blue
- A heron flying slowly but certainly northward
- Five airplane contrails: one a sharp white slash across the sky; two elegant arching ribbons; and two soft, thick strands of unspun wool
- A large flock of small birds silhouetted in acrobatic glory against the sun
- Two men on a giant elevated dolly, doing something useful on the fourth story of an unfinished red-brick building
- A thin plume of grey smoke arrowing straight into the sky from an unknown location
- Two hot-air balloons
- An enormous white shark made entirely of clouds
- A crow being chased by two red-winged blackbirds
- A patchwork collection of sunshowers spreading out across the city
- Three bright rainbows
- One glowing sunset (orange and purple variety)
Tomorrow, I think I shall look down.

I saw the crows being chased too. It's funny because the blackbirds are so much smaller. Like the elephant fearing the mouse. Still, one divebombed me on the bike path the other day and gave my quite a peck on the top of my head.
Yesterday was a glorious sky day.
Looking up is a good idea. I hardly ever remember to do it (unless I am at the beach or on a boat for some reason.)
I am a down-looker. All the better to find dropped change. But you remind me of all the stuff I am missing up there.
Tornwordo - It's always funny until someone gets pecked on the head, right?
Susan - There's interesting things to see wherever you look. Most people just never bother, that's all.
You see a lot when looking up.
Like Susan, I tend to look down. But that's also because I tend to trip over cracks in the sidewalk. I love your sharing of what's up there.
CoffeeDog - Yeah. It's amazing what you can see when you start to look at things that are typically unnoticed.
Snooze - I also spend a lot more time looking down than I do up, and for a similar reason. ... Actually, I've been know to trip on completely flat ground. That's why I was amazed when I spent a day conscious of what was above my head instead of at my feet. You might want to give it a try some day - just don't attempt to walk at the same time! :)
Additional Note - I've been drafted as a last-minute replacement at an out-of-town conference, so I won't be around for the next couple of days. I'm not ignoring you - REALLY!
Wow, that was great!
I always look down. Scared of dog poo.
I had a friend who hadn't looked up until sometime in his 20's. That has always made me sad to think about. There is so much to see and so much to reshape with our own eyes. The world up there just doesn't seem to have the same gravity (no pun intended) as it does down here.
It is a beautiful entery and a lovely observation list. Thank you....I think I'll have a walk now.
Thats just great. I was planning on looking up, but there's really no reason now is there? How Rude!
St. D - That's an excellent point. As I said to Snooze, it's worth looking up ... just don't try and walk at the same time!
Standing - I know what you mean. It's always good to defy gravity, if only with your eyes, every once in a while. I hope you enjoyed your walk!
Greg - Rotten, ain't I? I suppose you could always ignore me in majestic, icy silence and look up anyway ... :)

Ahh, you made me smile. The simplicity of looking up can yield such wonderful treasures. :)
Epi - I'm glad I was able to make you smile. It's often the little stuff that makes the day worth living.
